About the Island Woodturners Guild

Welcome to the Island Woodturners Guild (IWG)

Our Mission
The IWG is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of woodturning. Our mission is to provide education, information and organization to those interested in turning wood.

The IWG is run by its members whose participation and input are essential to its success. You will find our members friendly and supportive and always ready to lend a hand. Since learning about woodturning is what we are about, please feel free to ask questions or bring suggestions to any member of the Executive.

The Guild is a dynamic organization always open to new ideas on how to further our Mission. We do this through demonstrations, outreach and welcoming new ideas to add to our current list of activities. Some of the more prominent benefits of being a member of the IWG are:

  • Monthly Guild meetings
  • Hosting experts to put on demonstrations and hands-on workshops
  • Demonstrations by Guild members
  • Mentor workshops
  • A Library
  • Skill building challenges
  • Opportunities to show your work in a supportive environment
  • Sharing and development of new designs and tools
  • Connections with suppliers and access to equipment and supplies at economical prices

WOODTURNING 101 COURSE
The Woodturning 101 Course is held once a year, with a limited number of attendees, and is open to new members. If you are interested in attending a 101 Course, please contact us.

Reminder
All IWG members are reminded of the Safety pages on this site.

Our Meetings
Our meetings are usually held on the fourth Saturday of every month except July and August, and normally run from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. However, when we have a guest demonstration, we usually have an all-day session running from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. At times we will shift the meeting a week earlier or later to accommodate a visiting demonstrator, so make sure you check the General Meeting dates on the Calendar page for the exact date.

Our Location
We are located at the Central Saanich Seniors Citizen Centre, 1229 Clarke Road, Brentwood Bay, B.C, V8M 1E2.
